An insightful interview with Kate + Sam’s celebrant Electric Love Weddings (aka Emily.) She shares some great tips for choosing the right celebrant for you and a big ceremony no no!

What was the brief from Kate + Sam for their ceremony?

“Kate + Sam wanted their ceremony to be a true reflection of their personalities—fun, relaxed, and full of love. They wanted to keep things light-hearted with a good balance of humour, while still capturing the depth of their commitment to each other. They really emphasised the importance of including their family and friends, making everyone feel part of their love story.”

What’s the best part about a ceremony at a venue like Osteria?

“Osteria is definitely one of my go to’s… the blend of rustic charm and modern elegance creates a beautiful backdrop for any ceremony. There is plenty of space, which helps when the couple have large bridal parties, and the staff are always so helpful and accommodating to ensure the ceremony runs smoothly. Plus, the versatility of the space allows for seamless transitions from the ceremony to the reception, ensuring the celebration flows effortlessly.”

Your top tips for finding the right celebrant…

Personal Connection: Make sure you vibe with your celebrant. They are going to get to know you both on such a personal level, it’s important to feel comfortable with this person.
Personalisation: Look for someone who takes the time to get to know you and can tell your story in a way that feels authentic and personal. You want your ceremony to be uniquely you, not a cookie-cutter version.
Flexibility and Creativity: Look for someone who’s willing to customise the ceremony to fit your unique story and style, but also someone who’s on your wavelength. Weddings can be unpredictable, so having a celebrant who is flexible and can go with the flow is a huge plus. Whether it’s a last-minute change or an unexpected hiccup, you’ll want someone who can handle it with grace.
Professionalism: A great celebrant will be organised, punctual, and experienced in managing the flow of the ceremony.
Legal Know-How: Make sure your celebrant knows their stuff when it comes to the legal aspects. You want everything to be legit and hassle-free, so having someone who’s on top of the paperwork is key.
Passion: Finally, choose someone who’s genuinely passionate about what they do. A celebrant who loves love will bring so much warmth and joy to your ceremony.

What are some things that a celebrant does that couples may not know about?

“A lot happens behind the scenes! We often assist with the ceremony script, ensuring it’s personal and engaging. We coordinate with the venue and other vendors to ensure everything runs smoothly. Plus, we often provide support and reassurance to the couple, helping to calm any pre-ceremony jitters.”

Something couples may overlook when booking a celebrant?

“The chemistry! It’s so important to feel comfortable with your celebrant. They’re the person guiding you through one of the most significant moments of your life. Make sure you have a face to face, or video call meeting to ensure we are a good fit.”

In your opinion, what’s the biggest ceremony ‘no no’ ?

“Overcomplicating things. Keep it simple and meaningful. Too many elements can make the ceremony feel disjointed. Focus on what truly matters to you as a couple. Oh.. and not forgetting this one goes without saying really… Standing in between the couple for long periods of time, or god forbid, their first kiss!! That is a big no no for me! It’s their day, not mine!”

What was your favourite part about Kate + Sam’s wedding?

“Watching them recite their personal vows, they both absolutely nailed it. There were tears, there was laughter, it was really touching to witness.”

Any special stories to share about the couple, planning process or wedding day?

“I genuinely love the planning process, getting to know Kate + Sam was such a fun experience, and a breeze. They are a super relaxed, down to earth couple, once it gets to the day of the wedding, you feel like you’re marrying your mates!”
