Katherine + Jack – Osteria Wedding

We love having so many wonderfully talented wedding stylists come to our venue and transform the space to make it perfect for their couple. We’ve seen all different styles over the years, boho chic, rustic, modern, classic, garden party, lavish, simple and everything in between. Katherine + Jack hoped their wedding would exude fun and romance! We hear from one of our favourite local stylists and florists, Harper Arrow, about how they brought this vision to life for Katherine + Jack.

What was the brief from the couple?

We were extremely fortunate to have the couple let us take free reign on their wedding. Besides a few inspo photos the bride sent through of pink babies’ breath & the words “fun & romantic”, we were given full creative design which is always such a privilege.

Your top tips for briefing a stylist?

Ensure you are providing approx numbers and table layout really helps to get the ball rolling on what is achievable.  Always voice if there is an important area/section that you want to prioritise within the budget as a statement, as this can help guide the design for the day. Keep an open mind, you can provide all the elements that you are after but expect to be guided by the professional  – flexibility allows designs to grow organically and that’s when the result is dreamy.

What’s a rough budget a couple should allow for a full arbour and hanging installation?

This can certainly be dependent on ingredient selection and density that you are after within your design. It will also come down to whether the arbour/mechanic being used is included with the venue or we have to provide it as an extra hire piece. You also have to take into consideration the price to get the hanging installation professionally rigged to the ceiling, which allows for the flowers to safely suspend. We would suggest somewhere between $6-$10k to allow for both items to be fully covered and look breathtaking.

How long did it take to create the floral masterpieces for this wedding?

We allowed 1.5 hours for the overhead hanging, which includes multiple trips up and down the ladder & standing from afar. For the arbour we allowed 1 hour for this piece, as it’s important to factor in elements like wind/rain/heat & how this will affect the ceremony piece close to its ceremony time.

What’s the best part about styling a venue like Osteria?

There are so many things – the flexibility of the space, height of the venue, a beautiful ceremony space that caters to so many different design elements. A big factor is also the accommodating team, they are always so friendly and helpful. It really makes the day go smoothly.

Something couples may overlook when booking a stylist?

It is super important to understand that the stylist you are booking is going to deliver your dream into a reality. Always choose someone you have a connection with and trust – they will do the best work for you. It is the extra/behind closed doors work that goes into ensuring everything runs smoothly – stylists are quick at making decisions and great problem solvers.  We frequent spaces/venues numerous times and have an understanding of how things function & work within the space, while this can sometimes be hard for the client to let go of, always trust the process.
